Sheep Farming Overview

Sheep provide steady mid-game income through wool collection and processing. Unlike cows, sheep do not produce milk — their value comes entirely from wool you shear, spin in a spindel machine, and sell as bundled products at AnimalCo. Each sheep costs 3,000 coins and requires fencing, a feeder, and animal food. The Sheep License gates purchases, unlocked through Goals at around 7,200 XP along with access to spindel machines.

Sheep farming fits players who want animal income without the factory complexity of chocolate milk. Wool bundles sell reliably at AnimalCo drop-off zones. The workflow is physical: shear sheep manually, pick up wool pieces, load spindles, collect bundles, trailer to town. Automation scripts exist but playing legitimately teaches herd management that helps with cows and other animals too.

How to Unlock Sheep and Spindels

Progress the Goals system until you reach the sheep license tier on the Animals track — approximately 7,200 XP in the sheep goal chain. Completing associated tasks grants the Sheep License and unlocks spindel machine placement on your farm. Without the license, AnimalCo will not sell sheep even if you have enough coins.

You also need an animal trailer. New players receive a small animal trailer at start; otherwise buy one at TractorCo or the Vehicle Store for 5,000 coins. Attach the trailer, drive to AnimalCo, align with the white markers under the cow archway, and enter the store to purchase sheep. Transport them back to a prepared pasture before they wander off your plot.

Pasture and Feeding Setup

Fence a grass area before buying sheep. Place an animal feeder and keep it stocked with animal food from AnimalCo — buy food boxes inside the store. Sheep need room to roam inside the fence; cramped pens cause pathfinding issues, especially after the 2026 update improved animal movement. Gates should open toward your barn or working area so you can corral the flock when it is time to shear.

The game limits total animals to thirty-two per layout without the More Animals game pass, which raises the cap to fifty-two. Plan herd size against your spindel capacity and selling schedule. Six to twelve sheep is a manageable starter flock for learning shearing timing without overwhelming feed costs.

How to Shear Sheep

Buy shears from AnimalCo. Equip them and approach a sheep with fully grown wool. Press the interact button to shear; a wool piece drops on the ground. Pick it up and carry it to a spindel machine. Each sheep regrows wool over time, so establish a rotation — shear the flock, wait for regrowth, repeat. Improved animal pathfinding on the new map makes herding easier, but corraling still saves minutes on large flocks.

Protect wool drops from getting lost under fences or vehicles. Work in a clean pasture corner. If wool clips through terrain, reload the area or move the sheep before shearing again.

Spindel Processing and Selling

The spindel machine converts raw wool into sellable bundles. Insert five wool pieces to produce one bundle. Each spindel holds up to ten wool pieces at a time — two bundles worth. Load spindels after shearing runs, wait for processing, then collect bundles onto a trailer or truck bed. Drive to AnimalCo and use the animal product sell drop-off, not the crop side of FarmCo.

Scale by adding more spindels near your pasture so you never idle with full wool inventory. Pair sheep income with field crops or cow milk while wool regrows. Sheep alone will not match chocolate milk profits, but they diversify income and complete Goals tasks tied to wool production.
